Joeri Smissaert

DevOps Engineer & Full Stack Developer

About

My name is Joeri (pronounced as Yuri). I work as a DevOps Engineer for a managed hosting provider where I help maintain a fast, efficient and resilient backend infrastructure. I develop new and maintain existing tools, investigate bugs and issues affecting our platform, and participate in task planning and code review processes that aim to increase the codebase quality.

I’m mainly interested in open source technologies, I automate stuff using Python, enjoy making web applications with JavaScript & Python, and I occasionally play games on my Fedora Linux machine. I’m always committed to continuous professional development.

Never stop learning

Skills

Linux

I have experience administrating services on the Debian and Red Hat families of the Linux OS for over 10 years: Nginx, PHP-FPM, MariaDB & MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, the ELK Stack, Postfix, NFS, Samba, Firewalld, iptables, Docker and Kubernetes are some technologies I work with on a daily basis.

Cloud

I have hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform. I deploy and administrate services on products like Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, App Engine and Google Kubernetes Engine.

DevOps

I'm familiar with DevOps practices by building and maintaining tools released through CI/CD pipelines to virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters in cloud environments.

Code

Currently enrolled in a Full Stack Python bootcamp, I'm expanding my knowledge on Front- and Backend development using JavaScript and Python with frameworks such as Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS, Vue.js and Flask. I also extensively use Bash, Ansible and Python, both professionally and for hobby projects.
